Tony’s Priorities for Oakville

We are long time residents of Oakville and we like everyone
have become products of experience that has shaped our lives
and attitudes for what we think we need for a perfect life.
I have a little list:

I would like an Oakville ‘BATBAG’ dispose system to
feel less guilty when I throw out small batteries.

I would prefer to ‘Refuse’ junk mail including telephone
directories that I would rather collect when needed than find
unwanted on my doorstep.

I would go along with an Oakville bylaw to eliminate
cosmetic pesticide use on private property.

I wouldn’t object to less nighttime street lighting with
LED bulbs and/or 50% dimming after 2:00 a.m.

Our family and our home is Canada. We are truly blessed with world-class cities, scenic townships and outstanding rural communities. We love our green spaces, lofty mountains, lush forests, fertile lands, bountiful rivers and oceans and pristine arctic territories.

We value a multi-cultural democratic society and freedoms to live and work as good neighbours and peacekeepers at home and abroad.

And, we especially appreciate our children that reflect traditional Canadian values from outstanding experience of all-inclusive secular schooling.

NDP Priorities

NDP imperatives include: Better Health Care, Affordable Education,
Clean Green Energy, Job Protection: Fair Property Taxes and a
higher Minimum Wage. I have my own thoughts on these matters:

I support a publicly funded health system for all Canadians.

I believe senior citizens deserve greater public funding for
better care and protection.

I know from experience that publicly funded secular education
is more likely to moderate dividing attitudes that have no place in
a modern multicultural Canadian society.

I feel it is unconscionable that we leave youth in debt after they
follow advice to learn what we want them to know … for our=
own benefit. It seems a perverse punishment to me.

I am happier and more comfortable with a small is beautiful
approach for more efficient houses and cars.

I favour and would use more accessible public transportation
systems versus highway expansion policies.

I have seriously doubts that high carbon producing company purchasing penance based ‘Carbon Credits’ to fund less carbon producing projects will actually reduce global carbon pollution levels.

I think downloading services should be seen as a form of ‘Offloading’ to the point of abdication of responsibility in governance.

I figure raising minimum wage to $10 an hour indexed to inflation makes good macro-economic sense.

I am appalled that a ‘Payday Loans’ industry is allowed to charge interest in the hundreds of percent that at least should be capped at 60 % as per high credit-card rates.

Freezing original purchase or current property tax would be a welcome fair and stabilizing factor for long-term homeowners.

Leadership

The
NDP is the grassroots of Canada. The NDP is about taking care of who we are and how we live. I am a proud member of the NDP. Above all … the NDP is about Fairness and Social Responsibility. No other party is quite so believable, or as convincing.

Political leaders might profess to listen to constituents. They may promise action on important matters. And, they might even say they want public participation in governance.

It hasn’t been our experience, not until we discussed ‘Identity Theft’ with the
NDP.

NDP leadership is more than a whimsical notion that “Leadership matters”. People know that. And it’s more than crossfire and political jibes about broken promises.

Leadership is evident in courage and conviction. It becomes obvious in battles to achieve. Leadership surfaces from all walks of life. It has a way of being there in times of crisis and adversity.

People with a debt crisis from ‘Identity Theft’ should take a closer look at the
NDP for reason in the way we live now.
