The strange
circumstances and unique politics of the NDP Oakville Riding campaign
roll along with Crawford's highly visible NDP Mobile Office ready for
action.
A Bank fined $100,000 on
September 13, 2007 for forging clients' signatures is suing through and
beyond the provincial election campaign to collect a matching amount
from a seemingly fraudulent loan by summary judgement on November 19,
2007.
The same Bank has given
leave to one of their own to run in the Oakville Riding campaign.
'Sitting Duck'
loans are
well established in bank 'Off-site Loans Closings' procedures
apparently involving bank
'No Wrongdoing
Guidelines' that create legally binding debts from seemingly
undisclosed loans involving 'Signature Affidavits' from lawyers
representing third parties.
Any Canadian banker can
explain the clever lending scheme to an interested voting public.
Any Canadian Judge can
explain why 'Sitting Duck' loans are legally binding on debtors who are
mostly unaware, uninvolved, and never see the money.
Crawford would like to
believe consumer protection is just around the corner. "The pen is
mightier than the fraud." the writer says, "It's a matter of political
will to do something to properly regulate our banks.
It's just a matter of
votes."
Meanwhile, Federal
Conservative and Provincial Liberal governments maintain long standing
silence and intransigence over the issue. The Canadian justice system
ponders over a 'Business Ethics Social Responsibility Paradox' in the
financial sector.
And, the media
continues
to struggled with what to report, who to interview, and generally what
to say about 'Identity Theft' and consumer protection in Crawford's
proposed 'Responsible Lending Act'.
There has been a
conspicuous deafening silence since the publication of free NDP public
awareness Crawford 'Identity Theft Protection' books from the
2006 NDP Convention.
The NDP petition for an
investigation into lending practices emerged from an idea suggested by
Peter Kormos during the McGuinty Bill 152 debate about 'Title Fraud'.
Crawford's petition has been signed by Jack Layton, Howard Hampton,
Peter Kormos and more than 1,000 constituents. It just keeps rolling
along, not like a bunny ... more like an unstoppable juggernaut for a
concern that has every right to be heard in a free country like Canada.
Minister of Finance, Jim
Flaherty wrote Crawford just two weeks into the campaign to answer the
candidate's letters sent during March Canada Fraud Awareness Month
expressing concerns about 'Identity Theft' and consumer protection.
Here are the pictures.
